Mobile Device Actions

ZEM Cloud allows you to execute remote actions on enrolled mobile devices.

Available Actions

Lock Device

Immediately lock the device screen, requiring the user to enter their PIN, password, or biometric to unlock.

Availability:

  • Android Device Owner - Yes
  • Android Work Profile - Yes (locks parent profile)
  • iOS - No (requires MDM profile)

Ring Device

Play a loud sound on the device to help locate it. The sound plays even if the device is on silent mode.

Availability:

  • Android Device Owner - Yes
  • Android Work Profile - Yes
  • iOS - Yes

Reboot Device

Restart the device remotely. The device will power off and back on automatically.

Availability:

  • Android Device Owner - Yes
  • Android Work Profile - No
  • iOS - No

Wipe Device

Factory reset the device, erasing all data. This action is irreversible.

Availability:

  • Android Device Owner - Yes
  • Android Work Profile - No
  • iOS - No (requires MDM profile)

Push Message

Send a notification message to the device. The message appears as a system notification and can include:

  • Title - Message heading
  • Body - Message content

Availability:

  • Android Device Owner - Yes
  • Android Work Profile - Yes
  • iOS - Yes

Push messages are useful for:

  • Sending urgent IT notifications
  • Reminding users to perform an action
  • Confirming device location (ask user to respond)

Unenrol Device

Remove the device from ZEM Cloud management:

  • Android Device Owner - Factory resets the device
  • Android Work Profile - Removes the work profile only
  • iOS - Removes ZSync registration

Executing Actions

  1. Navigate to Mobile Devices
  2. Click on the target device
  3. Click the desired action button
  4. Confirm the action in the dialog

Action Delivery

Mobile device actions are delivered through the queue system:

Android

Android devices check the queue every 60 seconds (configurable). Actions are typically delivered within one minute when the device has network connectivity.

iOS

Due to iOS background execution limits, actions may be delayed until:

  • The user opens the ZSync app
  • The system allows a background refresh
  • The device receives a push notification (if APNS is configured)

Action Queue

View pending and completed mobile actions in the Action Queue:

  • Pending - Waiting to be delivered
  • Delivered - Sent to the device
  • Completed - Successfully executed
  • Failed - Could not be completed
  • Cancelled - Cancelled before delivery

Cancelling Actions

Pending actions can be cancelled before they are delivered to the device:

  1. Navigate to Action Queue
  2. Find the pending mobile action
  3. Click Cancel
  4. Confirm the cancellation

Audit Trail

All mobile device actions are logged in the Audit Log with:

  • Action type
  • Target device
  • Administrator who initiated the action
  • Timestamp
  • Result
